Tree Planting in The Fall — Southern Ontaio

The fall is a great time to plant that tree that you have always wanted.

The growing season is done and we are now able to dig most trees by the start of September. This time of year you are able to take advantage of having the first pick of trees that are ready for next years sales. The trees on the farm look their best at this time of year.

The trees may look like they are finished growing at this time but in reality, this is the time where much of the root growth is happening. The roots will continue growing right into November. It will still be very important to water these trees after installing them as the ground is typically very dry. We recommend watering the trees right up until freeze up so that the trees go into the winter fully saturated which will prevent the branches from drying out over the winter. Soe softer skinned shade trees may need their trunk wrapped to prevent sunscald in the late winter. Evergreen trees planted very windy areas may benefit from being wrapped with burlap as well.

Fertilizing your trees at this time is very beneficial for their root growth no and initial growth in the spring. the new flush of growth of the evergreens in the spring is all initiated by the fertilizer that is absorbed in the fall.

Take advantage of the time you have now to improve your landscape and add some evergreen privacy to your personal space. Let us show you how!
